Bumblebee started life as a standard 1993 Daihatsu Charade, owned by Duncan Harrison. Originally the charade was white, and was gradually transformed into a fairly quick little race car. With the addition of a 6 point roll cage, race seat and harness, and an large amount of weight reduction, times were falling fast. The standard HC-E 1.3 litre engine was replaced with a HD-E 1.6 litre engine from a Daihatsu Applause. Suspension was chopped and a heavier rear sway bar added.
Several events were competed in with the car in this state. Events such as Gatton Street Sprints, Oakey Street Sprints, Pittsworth Street Sprints.
